I haven't posted in quite some time because I've been working on whipping Leonard the Great into publishable shape -- deciding that I should just get the darned thing done rather than posting about getting the darned thing done. It's been frustrating and a little embarrassing for me to consistently zoom past posted deadlines, so I'm just going to shut up and write (or, in this case, rewrite).
I will say I'm closer than ever and hope to publish Leonard by -- oops, almost did it again. Further updates will come when I get much closer to pushing the "publish" button. Whenever that is.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about being embarrassed as deadlines zoom by. My last two books had "expected publish dates" and I had to work my socks off (in a bit of a panic) to meet those deadlines as best as I could. I was a month late in both cases, which I guess is acceptable... and honestly the deadlines did serve to get my butt in gear. But yes, it's far better to keep deadlines as vague as possible, while not being so vague that readers lose interest. My fourth book in the "trilogy" is due in 2011. It could be January or December, though, as long as it's 2011. I think I can manage that!
Having said all that, there's no reason not to post on your blog. There are plenty of things you can talk about without mentioning expected deadlines. :-)
Right as always, Keith. I think part of my problem is that this is my first effort as a self-publishing author. I keep running across unexpected challenges that throw off my scheduling (such as it is). I think once I get a couple of these under my belt, the process will go more smoothly.
Glad to hear about your next book in the series. Maybe I should adopt your "sometime next year" date of publication strategy!
And yes, I will post more frequently. I do enjoy blogging here so I really have no excuse not to do so (other than being lazy and addle-brained).
Writing about writing and the actual writing itself are two completely different things. You're so right about that. Good luck, hope you'll be able to meet your deadline!
